Year Of Projects Sunday July 29, 2012

 takingpartYOP2.jpg

Hello,
This has been a really nice weekend. It has been below 95F/35C for two days now. It is still hot, but we have turned off the air conditioner and opened the windows. It feels so good to have some fresh air.
A week ago I made a bag for a co-worker as a gift and then I found out that another co-worker is leaving in a week to back to college. I wanted to make her a gift too, she had thought she was going to stay here and not return to university. Well, I am very proud of her for deciding to go back. That got me thinking about Christmas and that I hadn't put anything on my YOP list for Christmas gifts and birthdays, or other events that I know I will need gifts for. I am going to update my list and I think this with all of my other WIP's will get me through the holidays with plenty to do.
Here is my list.
1. Sidewalk Shawl
2. Japanese Flower Scarf
3. Multi-Stitch Blanket
4. Mom's Blanket
5. Granny Love Blanket
6. My Cardigan
7. Amiga Cowl
8. Sock Yarn Motif Scarf
9. Sock Yarn slippers
10. One completed knit item
Here are the additions.
11. Slouchy tote for my college friend.
I should be done with this tonight. I am writing this pattern as I go and will post it when done.
12. Blanket for Sawyer.
13. Blanket for Wyatt.
14. Blanket for Sarah.
These are my nephews and niece. They all asked for blankets for Christmas. I am planning on using this awesome new yarn I saw. I haven't seen it in any stores ( and I have looked everywhere), but I will order it.
Lion Brand Yarn Homespun Thick and Quick.
You use a huge hook (size N) and it works up really quickly. I can't wait to make their blankets with it. You can make a blanket in a weekend with it. I think I am going to use a ripple pattern for all  three.
15. Nativity Scene for my SIL. I think she will really like this. I think it is really neat and she has several Nativity sets.
Hopefully that will be it for the list for awhile. Lol. I have way too many projects on the go right now and feel a bit frenetic. I need to settle down and focus on one at a time. I work on my One-A-Day (Granny Love) a little everyday. I also have two other CAL's going on. The Japanese Flower Scarf and the Sidewalk Shawl. So my goal for the week is to finish the bag and then finish one of the two CAL's. Then the following week I will finish the other. When I have accomplished that I will finish up something else on the list. Focus, focus, focus. Going to have to be my mantra. I will talk to everyone soon. :)

    1. Thank you, I was smart and have been writing down the steps. Usually I have to go back and figure out what I did. I thought I would be done last night, but we went to the movies. I will post the pattern this week.

    1. I love bags. They are great gifts and not too hot to work on in this heatwave.

  6. Wow, that's some crocheting! I like to do a couple of things, generally something big and then something very small and quick to pop back and forward to. I do love that sidewalk shawl, I have it on my rav faves, but goodness knows when it may actually happen!

That yarn sounds great for blankets, does it go very far as it's thick do you think....I will go check it out now!

    1. The yarn is really nice. Unfortunately it is being discontinued from the stores here. I emailed Debbie Stoller to make sure it is still available online. I hope it will be, I have made several blankets with it. I made the Blanket Statement pattern from Attic24 with it. It was a project that the two of them (Debbie Stoller and Lucy) came up with. I think an adult sized blanket would use about 16 balls of it. I will let you know. When I saw that it was leaving the stores, I went to all four big yarn shops that sell it here and bought all they had. A project will soon be in the making. Talk to you soon. XOXO

  7. Wow, you have a lot going on! I've always had trouble using the regular Homespun for crochet, but perhaps the Thick and Quick is easier to deal with - it will certainly make for a faster blanket!

    1. I made a blanket last winter with the Homespun and at first I had a really tough time, and forget about pulling mistakes out. It does not unravel. I got used to it though and really liked the blanket. The Thick and Quick was the only reason I agreed to make that many blankets for Christmas. I think I can get a blanket done in a weekend. I will let everyone know. I am going to order some of it this week.

  8. It is so nice to be able to open the windows..our temps have been low, but the humidity has been awful, so we remain closed up..

I love that Japanese flower scarf and the bag looks great. I have a bag on my list..trying to decide on the fiber..

    1. I think humidity is worse than heat. It is awful when you have both. I am so looking forward to the fall this year.
Most of the bags I make are made with 100% cotton. For me it works the best. Have fun deciding on the yarn. That is half the fun for me.

  9. Heh, I know exactly what you mean about having too much going on, and one of the things I like about the Year of Projects is that you can keep adding to it as you go! The bag looks great, and I love the sound of that yarn - sounds like it would make a really great (and quick) blanket :)
